John E. Fletcher – Partner

John Fletcher

A graduate of McMaster University and the University of Western Ontario, John has practiced law in Alberta since 1979. His experience includes six years with a major law firm in Calgary as well as 15 years as Vice President, Legal and Corporate Affairs with Ranger Oil Limited, where he was responsible for all legal matters including:

Negotiating multi-million dollar financing

Acquisitions and takeovers

Negotiating international oil and gas production sharing agreements

Much of John’s business philosophy is based on his learning experiences in the Canadian Forces. “Initially, I thought leaders just barked orders at people,” he says. “Later, I realized other people, even those in a subordinate position, might actually be smarter than me at many things and that by working together, we could create better results.”

As a result, John takes a collaborative approach to Calgary law, working in respectful partnership with other members of his firm to meet client needs. This approach has been extremely successful, satisfying clients, making staff retention easy and allowing him to combine two of his greatest passions, the law and helping others.

John is dedicated to a job well done and committed to his clients. He believes in and practices respect, responsibility and fairness in all aspects of his life.

John Fletcher is the former Chairman of the Board of Southern Alberta Corps of Commissionaires.

Working directly under Kevin Weeks and other senior lawyers at MERGEN LAW, Gregory continues to gain experience in the areas of Corporate Law, Estate Litigation, Probate and Real Estate law. Gregory’s drive comes from his need to provide the highest level of service and support to clients during their most challenging periods of life.

While Gregory’s life began in small-town Ontario, he has worked in Toronto and Vancouver in the financial industry before settling in Calgary. Gregory received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Queen’s University and his Juris Doctor from Bond University.

Outside of work, Gregory enjoys politics, skiing, golf and the outdoors. Gregory served as the President of the Bond University Golf Club while in law school.

Dan Fuller – Student-At-Law

Dan Fuller

Dan Fuller grew up in Okotoks, Alberta. He attended the University of Lethbridge to complete his undergraduate degree in Sociology and Political Science and later obtained his J.D. from Bond University Faculty of Law in the Gold Coast, Australia.

While attending the University of Lethbridge, Dan was involved in many political groups on campus, the Provincial governing party at the time and volunteered in the community. Dan maintained his dedication to public service during law school as he was elected as director of finance to the student council in his first semester of law school and held multiple positions within the student council body until his graduation.

Upon returning to Alberta, Dan’s determination never faltered, and he secured a position as a law clerk within ten days of landing in Calgary. Dan’s commitment, aptitude and work ethic propelled him to secure an articling position with MERGEN LAW LLP. Dan is set to complete his articles in May 2020.

When Dan is not in the office, he enjoys spending time being active, playing baseball, golf, and tennis in the summer, and hockey in the winter. Dan dedicates his success to his friends and family.

Hi John,

We received your letter and cheque.  We thank you for your service.

Everything was done quickly and professionally.  It was nice meeting and talking to you.  If in future, we need a lawyer, we know who to turn to— you and your company!
